Policy Kings Brewery, described as Utah’s first Black-owned brewery, is now open in its new location in Salt Lake City’s Central 9th neighborhood, according to an Instagram post.
Located at 79 W. 900 South, just east of West Temple, Policy Kings is owned by married couple Sara and Deandre Ridgel. They relocated from Cedar City, where they first started their brewery in 2018.
The Central 9th location officially opened over the Memorial Day weekend, the brewery announced on Instagram.
Policy Kings’ Instagram profile says the brewery features “hand-crafted cocktails and beers blended together with the smooth sounds of jazz, soul, R&B and rap classics.”

In March, city officials announced that the Salt Lake City Council had recently approved a $75,000 Economic Development Loan Fund (EDLF) loan for Policy Kings. The funds were meant to help with improvements to the building, machinery, equipment, furniture and fixtures, and also serve as working capital to assist with the brewery’s move from Cedar City, according to a news release on the city’s website.
In the release, Darin Mano, Salt Lake City council member for District 5, said, “Policy Kings Brewery is a great addition to the Central 9th neighborhood, bringing craft, culture and community to our city.”
Policy Kings is open Monday through Wednesday, 2 p.m. to 1 a.m.; Thursday through Saturday, noon to 1 a.m.; and Sunday, noon to 10 p.m.
